Mountbatten Isle of Wight and Mountbatten Hampshire have announced Charles Alexander CBE as the new chairman of their board of trustees.
He will take up the role on December 1, succeeding Sir Ian Cheshire, who is stepping down after six years to become chairman of Ofcom.
Charles is a prominent international business leader with extensive experience across finance, healthcare, housing, and the arts. He was appointed CBE in 2022 for services to culture and health.
He currently chairs Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, and has previously held leadership roles at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Charles, who lives on the Island and has strong connections with Hampshire, also spent six years volunteering as a community visitor, at Royal Trinity Hospice in London.
He said: “Everyone facing the experience of managed and palliative care deserves the best possible 24/7 support. I am very much looking forward to contributing to the future of this leading organisation.”
Mountbatten CEO, Becky McGregor, welcomed Charles, saying he brings “vast experience” at a time when hospices are facing extreme financial challenges.
She also thanked Sir Ian for his commitment, advice and support during his six-year tenure. He said it had been an honour to chair Mountbatten, describing the organisation as “a national asset”.
