The Pink Ladies took centre stage with a charity ride-out, organised by the Vectis Vintage & Tractor Engine Club, on Sunday.

The rally was part of the Thompson’s Garden Centre’s first harvest show over the weekend, in Newchurch, with 16 ladies following the men’s ride-out last week.

Rally organiser, Colin Bailey, said: “It was the second Pink Ladies run, and it all went really well. We had one participant from Southampton which goes to show we are getting the word out about our event, and we had a wide range of drivers from someone who has only just passed her driving test to the more experienced drivers.

“They started at Thompson’s, and moved onto Morrisons at Lake where they stayed with collecting buckets for an hour. They then moved onto Sandown, before making their way back to Newchurch via Winford for their 10-mile journey.”

The ladies followed the men, who last week raised £377 for the IW Prostate Cancer Support Group, with some more still expected to be donated.

The lady drivers were encouraged to decorate their tractors, with many embracing the event’s pink theme, in support of those affected by breast cancer, with any money raised being donated to the Applegate breast care unit in Newport, supported by the Apple Blossoms breast group.

As part of the harvest show, the tractors were on display throughout the weekend, with other machinery which included stationary engines, lawn mowers, and steam engines.
