West Wight Swimming Club (WWSC) has returned to mainland competition for the first time since the pandemic, marking a significant milestone in the club’s recovery.
Following recent success at the Isle of Wight Championships, five WWSC swimmers competed across two days at the City of Southampton Christmas open meet, their first mainland event since the club came close to folding in the aftermath of Covid.
Day one produced seven personal bests, an encouraging result given that some qualifying times had only been set three weeks earlier. The momentum continued on day two, with swimmers recording a further eight personal best performances.
A special mention goes to Marley, who returned to competition following a period away from training due to injury, and recorded three personal bests over the weekend.
WWSC collected a total of twelve medals and finished fourth in the male team, and sixth in the female team competition.
The results capped a strong weekend for the club, and underlined its progress following a challenging period.
