LOOK BACK IN TIME: 5 January 1901

This message to readers which appeared in the Isle of Wight Observer, published on 5th January, 1901, with the exception of the new printing company, could well have been printed today!

To our Readers.—We have to thank our advertisers and subscribers for so kindly supporting us during the past year. We have endeavoured to make the Observer a well-printed and readable family paper, and to that end have, during the past few weeks, renewed the whole of our newspaper type. The increase in the circulation of the Observer has proved to us that the improvement is appreciated. We shall endeavour to deserve the support of our readers in the future by fair and impartial reports and comments on all that is of local interest. If, as occasionally must happen, mistakes occur, we trust our readers will believe “we set down nought in malice!” We may add that we are also laying down, at considerable expense, entirely new and up-to-date machinery, and hope that the I.W. Observer Printing Works will secure a continuance of a share of public patronage. In conclusion, we beg to wish our readers

A HAPPY NEW YEAR.
