Long term Firefighter retires

Freshwater Fire Station has said farewell to its much-loved colleague and friend Firefighter Phil Ryder who has retired after nearly 26 years of service.

Phil joined Yarmouth fire station in December 1996 before transferring to Freshwater in 2011. He has served the West Wight and wider Isle of Wight community for just short of 26 years attending fires, road traffic accidents and a wide range of emergencies and rescues as well as working as an Emergency Care Assistant for the IW Ambulance service for the last three years.

Phil will be switching off his alerter to spend more time with his wife Amanda and pursuing his new career.

A Freshwater Fire Station spokesman said: “We wish Phil every success and happiness for the future.”
