Large scale search for unconscious patient in Freshwater

Emergency services carried out a large scale search effort in Freshwater.

Fire crews from Freshwater Fire Station, along with Isle of Wight police officers, Needles Coast Guard, IW Ambulance Service, Ventnor Coast Guard and the Coast Guard Helicopter all attended the cycle track between Afton Road and the Causeway on Thursday night (August 16) at around 11pm.

Thermal imaging cameras and lighting equipment were used in the search for an unconscious person.

A spokesman for Freshwater Fire Station said: “This is a fabulous example of our emergency services working together in very dark, difficult conditions.”

A spokesman for Needles Coastguard Rescue Team explained nobody was located despite “saturating” the area.

All agencies left the scene at 1.25am on Friday morning (August 17).
