Medina Marching Band’s spring concert was performed in memory of their late chairman, Kevin Hayward, who passed away on February 13 last year.
Kevin was the band’s chairman from 1996 until his death and it was a full house at Christ the King College with everyone enjoying the band performing some of his favourite music, including hits by Queen, Coldplay, The Wurzels, and tunes from Pirates of the Caribbean, among others.
The concert also featured piper, John Brodie, a former member of the band who now plays the bagpipes.
Unexpectedly the fire alarm sounded during the show and everyone had to evacuate the building for a while until the fire brigade gave the all clear.
A raffle and entrance fees raised raised almost £1,700; that will be used to help fund the travel and general expenditure of the band.
Flowers were presented to Jane Haywood, Kevin’s widow, by present chairman, Kevin Downer, who thanked everyone for attending.
