Jonyth’s 30 years of volunteering at the Ventnor Botanic Garden

On Wednesday, Jonyth Hill celebrated 30 years of volunteering at the Ventnor Botanic Gardens.

The Isle of Wight Observer attended her surprise party and heard about Jonyth’s love for everything botanical.

At 88 years of age, no one knows more about the rich history of the beloved garden than Jonyth. She remembers distinctly the TB hospital which used to reside there, and the many celebrity gardeners and royalty who have graced the grounds. As a result of her vast knowledge and experience of the garden, she is one of the garden’s main tour guides, sharing valuable information and unique insights to interested visitors.

Liz Haines, her daughter, describes her as a “truly amazing person, who deserves to have her story shared” and, as the IW Observer is her favourite newspaper, we are happy to help share the news of her remarkable commitment to and love for Ventnor Botanic Garden.
