Isle of Wight’s Plaza Ices smashes world record attempt

Gary and Debbie Hall from Island-based Plaza Ices ice cream company smashed a Guinness World Record Attempt on Tuesday (October 16).

The event was organised by ice cream van manufacturers Whitby Morrison, and attended by ice cream van operators from all over the UK, including Scotland and Northern Ireland – there were even some vans from as far as Belgium and Ireland.

A new world record was established as 84 ice cream vans in convoy completed a two mile circuit around a golf and hotel complex, without having a gap of more than 10 metres at any one time.

The event was filmed by the BBC and other film crews and attracted plenty of other media attention.

Gary and Debbie said: “It was great to be part of a new world record attempt and to succeed was just fantastic – it is unlikely that so many ice cream vans will all be in one place at the same time and feel proud to be representing the Isle of Wight.”
