The Isle of Wight College’s public services lecturer, Vykke Gill, has been honoured with the High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight Award 2024–2025, recognising her exceptional commitment to young people and her long‑standing contribution to the Island community.
The award was presented by the current High Sheriff, Jacque Gazzard.
The award celebrates individuals who demonstrate leadership and meaningful impact across the Isle of Wight. Vykke’s recognition reflects her transformative work in preparing hundreds of students for careers in public and military services, and her reputation as an energetic, creative, and compassionate educator. Over nearly seven years at the college, her innovative teaching has helped many learners progress into roles such as police officers, soldiers, and other uniformed service professionals.
Her influence extends well beyond the classroom. Vykke plays a significant role in national youth activities, and leads students in community events that promote discipline, respect, and service. She is particularly noted for her leadership during Remembrance Day commemorations, where she works closely with students to honour veterans and strengthen intergenerational connections.
The Principal and CEO, Ros Parker, who nominated her for the award, described Vykke as “an exceptional role model”, adding that her passion for developing young people and her commitment to public service “shine through in everything she does”.
Presented annually, The High Sheriff’s Awards recognise individuals and groups who make a significant contribution to community safety, public service, and local well-being.
