Friends of Northwood Cemetery

Northwood Cemetery, in Cowes, has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award for the eighth year running, recognising the site as one of the UK’s best-managed green spaces.

The award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces, and is managed by Keep Britain Tidy. Northwood Cemetery has received receive the honour for a second year.

The accolade is shared by the IW Council and the Friends of Northwood Cemetery, who jointly maintain the site. A spokesman from the Friends group said: “We are delighted to have secured Green Flag status for the eighth consecutive year. This is a tremendous achievement and a testament to the efforts of our Conservation Team, volunteers, members, supporters and all who help care for and visit the cemetery.”

Scheme manager, Paul Todd, said: “Congratulations to everyone involved in Northwood Cemetery. Quality green spaces like this make the country a healthier place to live and work, and provide free, safe spaces for families to enjoy.”
