A member of the Island’s Catenians Circle has been recognised for his 50 years with the Catholic men’s association.

Adrien Hewison, 82, was born in Ryde and was a solicitor in the town and also in Freshwater. He said: “I was invited to join the association by my friend Tony Gale, who received his 50th anniversary award last year!

“I’ve got so many happy memories; in the early days there were a lot more younger members and their families and we would have Christmas and birthday parties for the children. There were lots of social events which were very enjoyable, and we still have a full social programme today. Looking back, it has been a hugely enjoyable 50 years and I’ve made so many friends.”

Adrien has been an active member of the Circle having been president (twice), membership officer, secretary and treasurer.

The evening, at the New Holmwood Hotel, Cowes, was hosted by IW Circle president, Eddie McMahon. Adrien attended, with his wife Heather, and was presented with his 50th anniversary scroll by the Catenians National President, Mark Conroy.

Other guests included: Roger Lillee (Southampton), past national president; Peter Daniels (Guernsey), director Province 11; Harry Harrison (Southampton), provincial president and Southampton treasurer Stephen Drive.
