A group of eight students, taking part in the Young Enterprise Best Company programme, have developed the Walk the Wight Board Game, an interactive board game which encourages players to explore the Island, get active, and have fun.
The Boundless Wight team, from the Island Sixth Form, have reached the National Final of the competition, which is being held in Cardiff, on Wednesday.
The idea of the game is to collect the most sunflowers as you cross the board. The counters are Island-shaped and made from recycled Island plastic made by Patter Products.
To reach the final, the team had to take part in a series of rigorous ‘Dragons Den’ style interviews on the Island, pitching their business idea to raise the necessary funds for their first production run of the game. Normally, there are only two Dragon Dens, but a third was necessary to raise additional funding.
Havinb won the Hants and IW title, they then won the best company and marketing award in the South-East Final, which required an interview, presentation, report, and for them to build a trade stand.
Now they are heading to Cardiff where they will have to create their own advert as well as go through another interview, present a report and make another trade stand.
The team, of Sebastian, Kinga, Sophie, Louie, Harry, Issac, Conor, and Liv, will be launching the board game on June 17, and they have already received more than 100 pre-orders. They are very active across all social media and have a web page.
