Island bands to support music idols this Easter

The Island’s very own Three Minute Heroes

Two popular Island bands have been selected to support Bruce Foxton’s From The Jam on Good Friday and Big Country on Easter Saturday as Medina Leisure Centre prepares to play host to the newly launched ‘Jack Up The Weekend’ concert nights.

As an exciting new spin off event from the organisers of the hugely successful Jack Up The
Summer festival which takes later in the year, 80s rock enthusiasts are invited along to the big sports hall at Medina for this indoor celebration of live music from two internationally
celebrated acts both boasting a stunning catalogue of stirring worldwide hit songs.
And it doesn’t get better than this for local musicians as supporting the electrifying From

The Jam on Friday 19 April will be the Island’s very own Three Minute Heroes. The four-piece band will be taking audiences back to the early days of The Jam.

Bass player Russell Wendes said; We’re really looking forward to the gig, playing on the same bill as someone whose influence has helped shape what you do is pretty exciting. In terms of our set, we’ll be taking it back to the roots, playing some Reggae and Ska from where it all started.”

Three Minute Heroes have a strong following from the Isle of Wight scooter scene and with
an energetic live set they are guaranteed to get the crowd going. One Saturday 20th April the Island’s only dedicated 80s band Kevin 17 will be supporting the fabulous Big Country. The band are busy preparing their own unique renditions of hit songs from The Cult, The Cure, Blondie, Eurythmics, The Skids and more – all heralding back to Big Country origins.

Speaking on behalf of the band, Mark Hermit said; “Kevin 17 are so proud to be supporting
Big Country, a band who we’ve seen many times before and are an amazing live act. We’re
also really pleased to be in a band with Russ our bass player. He’s so talented, not only is he playing with Kevin 17, but also with Three Minute Heroes supporting From the Jam the
previous night!”

With tickets strictly limited in number this a rare and unique opportunity to enjoy an up close and personal evening of unbeatable musical entertainment in an intimate indoor setting.

Family-run brewery Island Ales will be putting in a real ale bar and there will be a wide selection of vinyl records and artist memorabilia available to browse and purchase.
