Hundreds get ready for winter

Hundreds of people attended a ‘Winter Is Coming’ event at Newport’s Riverside Centre. Local and national organisations were on hand to give guidance and help on a wide range of matters.

The Footprint Trust assisted householders with energy bills, Citizens Advice gave guidance on money matters and financial help. The overriding message was encouraging Islanders to prepare for winter.

Veterans Outreach, Southern Gas Networks and Southern Water, Utilita, SSAFA and the Isle of Wight Council Trading Standards were also there.

The Footprint Trust gave guidance on energy saving, discounts and grants from utility companies, along with information on switching energy supplier and getting the best deals on utility suppliers. They encouraged those who qualify to sign up to the Priority Service Registers the utility companies. Southern Water were also publicising their Priority Service Register and the Watersure tariff, to assist those on low income or disabled.
