HTP Apprenticeship College celebrated the achievements of its learners at its biggest graduation ceremony yet, held at Newport Minster on Friday (October 16).
Graduates were joined by family, friends and employers to mark the completion of Higher Apprenticeships across a range of professional and vocational subjects.
Guests included Island High Sheriff, Nigel Hartley, Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce chief executive, Helen Curel, and West Wight MP, Richard Quigley, who was guest speaker.
Apprentices came from organisations across the Island, London and southern England, including Formula One, The Dorchester, Britten-Norman, Carnival UK, Portsmouth International Port, and local councils.
Qualifications covered management, human resources, hospitality, teaching, adult care, early years education, and quality assurance.
HTP chief executive and founder, Rachael Randall, praised the graduates, many of whom had previously doubted their academic abilities.
She said: “Over 90 per cent of you here in this room have never graduated before. Many of you thought you never would, but you have proved that you can do it and we’re proud of you all.”
Mr Quigley highlighted the importance of vocational education, saying: “University shouldn’t be seen as the only measure of success or the only route to fulfilling a rewarding career.”
Many graduates had balanced employment, family commitments, and studying, with some achieving promotions and greater responsibilities.
Rachael thanked families and employers for their support, adding: “It isn’t easy holding down a job and studying. Today is a tribute to your determination and the support of your families and employers too.”
The celebrations concluded with the traditional mortar-board-throwing photograph outside Newport Minster.
