Hovertravel pilot proud to be a keyworker

Steve Attrill, Head of Marine Operations and pilot at Hovertravel, is the first of nine individuals to feature in Maritime UK’s Proudly Supporting Our Key Workers video.

Steve adds; “All of us at Hovertravel are extremely proud to have been operating a critical community service since the very start of lockdown, flying key workers and essential supplies across the Solent. I am just one member of a team which includes engineers, crew, ground staff and my pilot colleagues – all of whom dedicated themselves to maintain a safe and speedy lifeline link between the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth.

We have seen cooperation on a local level with our fellow cross-Solent ferry firms and nationally the transport industry really stepped up to keep communities connected. It is a honour to be included in this key worker video.”

The two and half minute video features staff from Serco, Shoreham Port, Shetland Council, Bristol Port Company, Marine Craft Services and Trinity House, as well as two other ferry businesses: Northlink Ferries and Red Funnel.

As part of the campaign celebrating key workers in the maritime sector, HRH the Princess Royal, Patron of Maritime UK thanked everyone working in the industry with her own video message which was released simultaneously with the key worker video.
