Heritage weekend proves popular with residents and visitors alike

Residents and visitors were welcomed to the exhibition

Bembridge Heritage welcomed residents and visitors to their summer ‘Minding our Business’ exhibition last weekend.

Held in the Village Hall, constructed in 1910, the exhibition took a close look at how local shops and businesses have changed over the years. There were exhibits covering businesses from bakers to coal merchants, drapers to cafés, hotels to holiday camps, and grocers to garages.

Volunteers entertained and informed attendees, young and not so young, with anecdotes of events of years gone by. It was accompanied by a sale of local history books and DVDs, and refreshments provided by society volunteers.
Organiser, Paul Kenny, thanked volunteers, adding: “This has been a very popular two-day event which was supported by local businesses.

“There have been lots of changes in the village over the past 150 years, and we are lucky to still have a bakers, grocers and fishmonger. We need to use them or lose them.”
