It’s a big “hats off” to Islanders who have supported the latest Mountbatten fundraising initiative, Hats for the Hospice.
This year saw a fabulous response to the campaign from all sides of the Island, from hat mufti days in schools, businesses and offices to Mad Hatter cake sales. Dancers and rugby players took the opportunity to don their favourite headgear, while others held a cowboy hat party.
There was a great atmosphere at Mountbatten’s own John Cheverton Centre, where staff, volunteers and people being supported by Mountbatten got involved with a hat photo session. Everyone taking part in Hats for the Hospice was encouraged to donate £2 towards ensuring that no-one dies alone or without the support of Mountbatten’s experts in end of life care.
The event was inspired by the care given to Mountbatten community fundraiser Dani Johnson’s own father, when he was at the end of his life on the mainland. He had a great love of hats and often wore them on different occasions.
Dani said: “Many thanks indeed to everyone who joined in Hats for the Hospice 2019 – hats off to you all, you are amazing! We are sharing your photos on our social media, so please keep them coming in. Now is the time to bring in any fundraising you may have raised, so we can announce a total. All fundraising goes towards caring for Islanders at the end of their lives and their families. Thank you so much for helping us to help them when they need it the most.”
