Would you like your home to be warmer, greener and cheaper to run?
It’s easy to get a sales pitch about how to make your home more energy efficient, but sometimes harder to visualise the changes in place.
That’s where Wight Community Energy’s new Green Homes on Wight event can help. It’s part of a national initiative for local people to find out from other residents how installing energy saving measures helped keep them warmer, saved money on bills and cut emissions.
Over two weekends six very different ‘eco-friendly’ homes in Niton, St Lawrence, Shalfleet and Yarmouth will be open for public visits.
Find out first-hand about heat pumps, solar panels, solar thermal, in-depth insulation schemes and high-tech sustainable design.
‘How disruptive was it to install?’, ‘how much did it cost?’ and ‘how much have you saved?’ are likely to be some of the questions answered by the enthusiastic hosts. They will also be able to explain the benefits of low energy renovation and design and point out some of the pitfalls to avoid.
Event organiser, Stephen Cockett said : “I really wish I’d had the chance to speak to people on these topics before starting my own home renovation. Nothing beats having conversations with those who have been through the process first hand.”
Green Open Homes will run over the weekends of February 24 and 25 and March 9 and 10, with visits pre-booked via iow.life/greenhomesoniw.
