Games decided on penalties as end of the season in sight

Brading 1 v Whitecroft & Barton 1 (W&B won 5-3 on penalties)

In the all-Island League Gold Cup quarter-final clash at the Pete Henry Ground, Whitecroft & Barton won away at Brading, with Matt Evans scoring a first-half goal for the visitors and Brading keeper, Ben Gearing, making a string of saves to keep the score 1-0 to W&B at the break. In the second half, Brading had a few chances and finally equalised when Todd Connor headed a goal home from a free kick, with 15 minutes to go. Both sides tried to win the game in normal time but it was 1-1 at full time. The match was decided on penalties with W&B going through 5-3.

Binstead 0 v Shanklin 2

In the Memorial Cup fourth round, Shanklin beat Binstead at the Molehill, kicking uphill against the wind, and taking an early lead when Dan Field passed inside to midfielder, Ryan Hill, to cut inside and fire home an 18-yard left foot shot into the bottom corner. Jake Wright extended the lead to 2-0, ensuring Shanklin will play at home to West Wight in the quarter-final. Brading will be home to Sandown, East Cowes Sports will face Cowes Reserves, and Bembridge will play the winner of the High Park v Ryde Saints match.

Junior A & B Cups

Northwood Reserves won their Junior A Cup semi-final at home to East Cowes Sports and, in the Junior B Cup, Bembridge A go through to the final, beating AFC Wootton Reserves on penalties after drawing 2-2 in normal time. Vectis Reserves lost to ECS Res on penalties, after the match finished 1-1 in normal time, with Ben Gardner scoring for Vectis.

Saturday League

In Division One, West Wight won 4-0 away at Cowes Reserves. Oakfield won 5-1 at home to Sandown & Lake. Ryde Saints beat fellow-strugglers, Niton, 1-0 at Smallbrook.

In Division Two, Adgestone beat High Park 3-1 and Wootton won 2-1 away at near-neighbours, East Cowes Vics Reserves. Pan Community had a big win 8-1 against neighbours, Carisbrooke United. In the South Wight derby, reffed by Andy King, Ventnor drew 1-1 with Wroxall at Watcombe Bottom and Osborne Coburg won 6-0 away at Yarmouth & Calbourne.

In Combination One, Sandown & Lake Reserves narrowly beat Ryde Saints Reserves 4-3. An 89th minute Hayden Little back-post header from a Lewis Wade cross gave Shanklin Reserves the equaliser against Oakfield Reserves in the 1-1 draw at the County Ground. Whitecroft & Barton Reserves beat Brading Reserves 4-1, with goals from Mark Augustus, Laurie Stanton, Tom Scovell and Tristan Biles; Brading’s consolation goal came from Alex England Boirand.

In Combination Two, Carisbrooke United Reserves beat Ventnor Reserves 2-0 at Clatterford Road.
