Firefighters are responding to a call at the Isle of Wight College site in Newport on Monday afternoon (November 26).
Three crews from Newport and the aerial ladder have attended the scene after a call out at around 2pm.
A spokesman from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service said there is an investigation underway.
The fire was caused by building contractors using a blow torch on the roof, according to a firefighter at the scene.
The fire has been extinguished and crews are now attending a small fire in Freshwater.
