Fire crews from Newport and Freshwater were called to a chimney fire in Brighstone on Tuesday evening (March 12).
Emergency services were requested after a fire had spread from the flue into the wall cavity. Initial quick response by Fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus prevented the fire spreading further.
Luckily, working smoke alarms alerted the home owners to the incident.
This was the first fire shout for new recruits FF Thompson and FF Newey who did a grand job on hydrant duties.
