Essex success for Island pair

Richard Weaver and James Pink produced a solid result in their Mitsubishi Evo 6 at the Corbeau Seats Rally at the weekend.

Based out of Clacton-on-Sea and Tendring, this was the third time the event has run, the first two being in 2018 and 2019, with an enforced hiatus for 2020/2021.

This time the rally was part of the British Rally Championship, regarded as the pinnacle of the sport, with the country’s fastest drivers competing on closed roads around Essex.

The event began on Saturday night, with two special stages along the seafront, in similar format to the recent Sandown Sprint. The cars then went to Parc Fermé (secure parking) overnight before competition resumed early the following morning. Four different stages awaited competitors, repeated over three legs to give crews a total of 12 stages to tackle. Richard and James got off to a strong start and settled into the top 20. As the day wore on they upped their pace and finished the event second in class and 16th overall.

Richard said: “We’re delighted with this result, given the quality of the drivers and cars here. It is good to be measuring our ability and car against the very best rally drivers in the country”.

Their next event will be the Abingdon CAR-nival Stages on June 12.
