EQUALS IW group members recently visited MAD-Aid’s headquarters in East Cowes to present a £150 cheque to the charity.

The money was raised through an event held at the charity’s community room, the MAD-Aid DOT, in York Avenue.

The event in April combined fun maths learning with a Bunny Drive and cake raffle featuring cakes and breads from around the world.

The Equals IW group members were taking part in Multiply, a government funded maths programme delivered through the Isle of Wight Council’s Community Adult and Community Learning.

The baking activities entailed everyday maths skills of reading and following a recipe, reading scales, weighing ingredients, measurements, amounts and quantities and the time associated with baking.

The Bunny Drive with a Splash of Fun Maths was co-ordinated by Mark Cox, who said: “We are delighted at Equals IW to be able to give back to the community and raise £150 to support MAD-Aid in making a difference and getting medical aid delivered to those in need.”

Equals IW celebrates equality and diversity on the Island and Mark said there was lots of laughter during this fun event.

MAD-Aid has many projects in Moldova, including delivering much-needed medical and mobility equipment, as well as running the Phoenix Complex, which has a day centre for children with special needs and an elderly care home.

MAD-Aid also supports Ukrainian refugees, both in Moldova and here on the Island.
