Encourage rough sleepers to use the night shelter

Freezing weather has been forecast this week, prompting a call to Islanders to encourage rough sleepers to use the winter night shelter.

The Isle of Wight Council is working in partnership with The Salvation Army to provide a shelter offering food and warmth to adults who have nowhere to stay.

Anyone without a place to stay should contact the council’s housing team on 823040 or on 821105 out of hours.

The shelter is available at The Salvation Army ‘s headquarters at 72 Pyle Street, Newport. It can be contacted on 812743.

Alternatively, if anyone is concerned about someone sleeping rough, they can send an alert to the Streetlink charity by visiting www.streetlink.org.uk or by using the mobile app.

Streetlink can also be called on 0300 500 0914.

If you suspect someone is in immediate risk, harm or danger from sleeping rough, please telephone the Police on 999.
