East Wight Primary group which is hoping to stop Conservative candidate, Joe Robertson, from being elected has changed its strategy.
The original plan was for local electors to unite behind a single ‘progressive’ candidate after hearing from the Labour, LibDem and Green MP-hopefuls. However, after first Labour and then the LibDems pulled out of the meetings on advice from their national parties a rethink was required.
Co-founder Charity Garnett said “The problem we need to solve still exists, most of us do not want to send a Conservative to Westminster from East Wight. Our first meeting on Monday, despite the change of plan at very short notice, was a resounding success.
“Our new plan is to unite and build momentum and then choose the best tactical choice candidate a few weeks before the election.
There was real enthusiasm in the room for spreading the message on how we do this.
“We are no longer limiting tickets for the meetings to those on the electoral roll, as there is no voting component, so people from West Wight and those under 18, or not on the electoral roll for any reason, are very welcome to attend.”
There are still tickets available for their meetings on Monday in the Bay, Wednesday in Wroxall and next Saturday in Ryde, when the meeting will focus on younger people. You can book via iw.observer/ewptickets.
