Driver faces drug and dangerous driving charges following Calbourne collision

Joshua Johnson is to appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court tomorrow (Tuesday, January 8) accused of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs.

Johnson, of Gunville Road in Newport, has been charged with causing serious injury to two people in their sixties as a result of a crash on Middle Road near Calbourne on May 28 of last year. He has also been charged with driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug over the specified limit.

It is alleged that the 26-year-old was driving a Honda Civic in a dangerous manner when it crashed into a Toyota Yaris at Chessell crossroads.

The incident prompted the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance to respond to the Isle of Wight to airlift one of the injured parties to a mainland hospital.
