An artist is having her photographs displayed in a Freshwater café to help raise funds for charity.
Sian Pearce, 55, from Middleton, has set up the display on the walls of Petesaria, School Green Road, which is run by Mike and Cath Dasent during the day before it turns into a Chinese restaurant and takeaway in the evenings.
Sian has had a varied career working as a singer, as a circus performer with skills including juggling, tightrope walking and unicycling, and in social services in mental health. She said: “This is my third year on the Island and I really wanted to do something for my local village and the community.
“Mike and Cath have kindly allowed me to house my photos in the café and this set is the first in a series of pictures in and around Freshwater – although there is one of Shanklin which I couldn’t resist putting in! My next set of photographs will be focussing on The Waverley. I will be making a donation to both the West Wight Sports and Community Centre and its annual charity, Stillbirth, and Neo Natal Death (SANDS).
“Photography is something I have got into since coming to the Island. I have always enjoyed the local environment and incorporating it into my work. When I first arrived, it was just before lockdown, so it’s only now that things are starting to open up and I’ve got a garden studio where I can work from.
“I also do other forms of art, but I love photography because it’s so instant; if you get the right photograph, you’re capturing a moment in time which might, or might not, turn out.”
