Popular Island singer Derek Sandy is aiming for No 1 after releasing a Christmas charity record.

Derek, from Ryde, whose theme song is ‘Welcome to the Isle of Wight’, has launched ‘Cos it’s Christmas’ to bring some festive cheer to everyone after a dismal year. The Britain’s Got Talent and Dine With Me star, said: “You never know. I might be in with a chance to make No 1!

“I decided to make the record to cheer everyone up because the last year has been such a struggle for everyone and their loved ones. I’d like to tell everyone to stay strong and be positive because there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“You have to keep the faith. As we have seen, everything can change in the blink of an eye, but I know everyone is going to be all right.”
The CD single was released yesterday (Thursday) and is available from The Needles’ Pier Head Shopping Emporium, priced £3.99, with 50p of every sale going to Island children’s charity Daisy Chains IW.

A video has been shot at The Needles’ Christmas grotto, due for release and Derek will be making regular appearances there throughout the build-up to Christmas to perform the song.
He added: “It’s really important to give something back at this time of year, which is why proceeds from the single will be going to Daisy Chains IW, a vital charity for Island children.”
