Crowds flock to sheepdog trials

By Press Release Jun 9, 2023

Rowlands Farm, in the shadow of Ashey Seamark, hosted the 2023 IW Sheepdog Trials, with proceeds going to the Mountbatten Hospice.

There was a special visit from Katy Cropper, the first female winner of BBC’s One Man and his Dog in 1990. She was placed on both days.

With more than 40 participants, and 60+ dogs, on both days of the weekend, more than 2,000 spectators enjoyed the high-quality competition and local refreshments, with panoramic views under the summer sun.
Judge Ed Hawkins on Saturday, and Richard Smith on Sunday, with course director, Noel Armstrong, certainly had their work cut out, but appeared to enjoy themselves over both days.

Saturday’s victor, Logan Williams, said: “Just back from a great weekend at the Isle of Wight Sheepdog Trials, many thanks to Ian Wheeler and his team for putting on a brilliant trial with a great big course, good sheep, and a superb atmosphere. Pleased to have won on Saturday with Catterlen Pip.”

Organisers thanked landowner, Alan Aylett, farmer Angus Baird who supplied the sheep and pens, and the committee of Matt Legge, Trevor Cook, Louise Hart and Vicky Calder for all their hard work making the event the success that it was.
