Cowes Enterprise College are Island’s legal beagles

Cowes Enterprise College won first prize and took the High Sheriff’s Trophy in the Inter Schools Mock Trial Competition at Newport Crown Court on Saturday (December 8).

In an incredibly close competition, Cowes were followed closely by VI Innovation Centre, and Ryde School came third.

This is now the seventh year Island schools have produced teams of students to take part in a mock trial in real-life courts. Initially introduced by Nick Hayward when he was High Sheriff in 2012, this event lets young students see exactly how the legal process works and gives them a real taste of the law in action. The event is sponsored by Rouse Ltd, Newport, and the winners receive the beautiful Rouse Ltd, High Sheriff’s trophy.

It was an exciting day with all the students displaying a sense of professionalism and confidence in their performances. The organisers commented on the very high standards reached by the students and congratulated both them and all their teachers for their hard work, dedication and understanding of the legal process.
