Christmas Day bus services put to good use by passengers

Southern Vectis is celebrating the popularity of its festive bus services – with thousands of people travelling across its routes on Christmas Day 2018.

“We’re delighted so many people journeyed with us,” said Southern Vectis managing director, Andrew Wickham.

“Across the UK, it is still relatively rare to be able to travel by bus on 25 December – and Southern Vectis offers the nation’s most extensive network.

“Many people work or wish to visit family or friends, particularly if they are in hospital, so we provided buses on our 1,3,5,7 and 9 routes, running them to a special timetable.

“We offer these services without any financial support from local authorities or from Government – with drivers who volunteer to work on Christmas Day – so it is important they are used. And they most certainly are.

“As an integral part of the local community, we’re pleased to be able to provide such an important service at a time of year when many people may otherwise feel isolated.

“Not only that, but it’s a great way to encourage those living locally to leave their cars at home and opt for sustainable transport. Our buses ran regularly throughout Christmas Day – and it’s great to know they were well used by people across the island.”
