The Brighstone Primary School’s horse-riding team are jumping for joy after winning first place overall at the IW Inter-Schools Show-jumping Competition, organised by Karen Begley.

Ten primary schools took part in the event at Little Kennerley Farm in Godshill. Riders had to complete two rounds of jumping a course of nine obstacles.

Skye (7), Bethan (7) and Violet (9) each achieved clear first and second rounds, with Skye achieving the fastest time of the day with her pony, Yasmin, earning her first place out of 25 riders. Bethan and Echo came second overall, and Violet, also riding Yasmin, secured third place.

Headteacher, Rebecca Lennon, said: “We are extremely proud of Skye, Bethan and Violet. They are all passionate about their sport and we are thrilled to see their hard work and dedication has paid off with these super results.”

Skye’s mum, Nicky, said: “It was a really well organised event, and all of the children who took part rode so well. I am sure other parents and school representatives would join me in expressing thanks to Karen and her team for their hard work.”
