BlackBox Theatre perform Bouncers

BlackBox Theatre Company is one of the south’s leading small-scale, professional touring companies. They bring exciting theatre to smaller communities and venues in Hampshire.

The company started in 2016, set up by writer and director, Chris Hawley. The overall aim is to provide exciting and accessible theatre to smaller communities, and make the most of local talent.

The company usually performs in small village halls, churches, colleges and art centres, and many of them have become regular venues. They have staged a range of shows, from A Midnight Summer’s Dream to Blithe Spirit, and most recently, Bouncers.

Bouncers is set in 1984 and is John Godber’s classic comic-drama telling the story of an average northern nightclub.

Maureen and her friends are getting their hair done, Barry and his friends are enjoying a couple of drinks at the pub, and Ralph, Les, Judd and Lucky Eric are gearing themselves up to man the doors at Mr Cinders, the town’s most popular nightspot.

The characters are played by just four actors, and this show looks at the ups and downs of typical nightclub life.

BlackBox will be performing Bouncers at the Anthony Minghella Theatre in the Quay Arts, Newport, on Sunday night (July 3). Tickets are £16 on-line at quayarts.org/event/bouncers, or £18 on the door. Doors open at 7:30pm with the show starting at 8pm.
