Vectis Radio is celebrating, after its 4PS Radio Training School won the Community Group Award at the BBC Radio Solent ‘Make A Difference’ awards. The ceremony, held at the Utilita Bowl, near Southampton, honoured organisations making a positive impact across the region.
Based at Vectis Radio, in Newport, the 4PS project was recognised for more than 13 years of work helping young people build confidence, communication skills, and self‑esteem through radio presenting, production, podcasting, and promotion. Judges praised the project for “sparking confidence, building trust, and creating moments families will never forget”, highlighting its creativity and the joy it brings to participants.
Station founder, Ian Mac, said he was “deeply honoured and extremely proud”, adding: “It’s all about the youngsters. They’re the ones achieving every day.” The award also celebrates the dedication of volunteers, supporters, and partner organisations who have helped sustain the project.
Student, Leisha Lang, said she was thrilled: “I’m so lucky and grateful to be part of an incredible project and the most wonderful radio team on the Isle of Wight.”
Vectis Radio has a strong history of community recognition, previously receiving The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, and being named Community Radio Station of the Year at the ARIAS.
Trustee, Kelvin Currie, said it was “truly amazing” to win against such strong competition. Patron, Graham Biss, added: “Winning the community group award is a real achievement and something to celebrate. We are proud of you.”
