Ann Springman – 90 years young

By Press Release Aug 30, 2021

Former Isle of Wight High Sheriff and owner of Shanklin Chine, Ann Springman celebrated her 90th birthday this week, with not one but three parties.

At the third party more than 100 guests mingled in the Chine’s summer sunshine, after walking a red carpet to be greeted by the birthday girl. They then enjoyed each other’s company with cream teas washed down with champagne. Guests on Monday afternoon included relatives and friends of Ann, among them a number of former High Sheriffs, the Leader of the Isle of Wight Council, Lora Peacey-Wilcox, local councillors and Andrew Turner, sometime Member of Parliament, when Ann carried out her term of office in 2002/3. Impressive balloon décor added to the party atmosphere, as did the music from Jan and Charles Gold.

Wreaths were also laid at the memorial to the men of 40 Royal Marine Commando unit, who trained in the Chine in preparation for the Dieppe landings in World War II.
