There was a good day’s racing for Newport, at the Southampton Head of the River race last Saturday.
The junior men’s crew, of Jake Garner, Nate Hamilton, Boris Hare, and Connor Garner, coxed by junior captain, Mariana Hare, led off Division One. They won their class of 9 crews, with almost 30 seconds over their nearest rivals from Southampton ARC, in a time of 17m 46s. In the same division, the novice men’s crew of Riv Szawiel, Freddie Hollis, and Jude and Eric Williams, finished 7th from 11 starters.
In Division Two, the novice women, consisting of Angela Whitehead, Helen Hopper, Flora Lockey and Julia Coulson, coxed by Fiona Brookes, missed out on victory by just two seconds. The masters men came third.
