Yarmouth Carnival Committee has welcomed a £5,000 donation from Wightlink, to support this year’s fireworks display, taking place on November 5.
The annual fireworks and torchlight procession has been a popular date on the town’s calendar for more than 50 years, bringing crowds from across the Island and the mainland to enjoy an evening of free traditional celebrations. It begins at 6pm, with a torch-lit procession through Yarmouth’s streets, before the crowds gather on the Common for a spectacular fireworks display over the Solent. Local businesses also get into the Bonfire Night spirit, by creating their own Guy Fawkes figures to display in their shop windows or outside their premises, with prizes for the best displays.
Jamie Allen, chairman of Yarmouth Carnival Committee, said: “We’re very grateful for this generous donation.
“The evening has become an important part of the Yarmouth calendar, with the torchlight procession, the Guy Fawkes displays, and the fireworks, all bringing the town together, and providing a much-needed boost for local businesses at a quiet time of year.
Sam Woodman, of Wightlink, said: “We’re delighted to continue our support for Yarmouth’s fireworks and torchlight procession. As a company with strong connections to Yarmouth, we’re proud to support events like this, and help make them possible.”
