Wootton pupils win Ad-mazing challenge

Wootton Community Primary School

Wootton Community Primary School has won the Cherry Godfrey Ad-mazing competition, held in partnership with the IW Observer.

The creative challenge saw pupils design advertisements for a range of Island businesses. Winners received medals, certificates and prizes donated by the sponsoring firms. Each business provided a detailed design brief, with awards for first, second and third place in both primary and secondary categories.

Head teacher, Jane Wilford, welcomed the win and said the £750 prize would go towards plans for an outdoor learning area.

The Isle of Wight College placed second, received £500, with Broadlea Primary School third, taking £250 back to their classrooms.

Sarah Redrup, of Grace’s Bakery, said she was delighted to support the initiative. “The youngsters of today are the Island’s future,” she said. “We’ll be using at least one of the ideas submitted in our own future advertising. A great deal of thought and skill went into the designs.”

Around 150 young people and guests attended the prizegiving on Wednesday evening, enjoying a packed tea and a steam train ride ahead of the ceremony.

The winning designs will be featured in a special pull-out with the IW Observer on Friday, July 18.
