Fresh from his overall win in the Evening TT Series, where he smashed the course record at the Ningwood 10, Wightlink CRT cyclist Kev Chant travelled to Cambridgeshire on Sunday, August 3, to compete in the RTTC National 25 Time Trial.

Conditions on the two-lap out-and-back course were good, with light winds favouring fast times. The route included a series of technical roundabouts, but Chant – riding his first-ever 25-mile time trial – handled them confidently.

Seeded early in the field, he set a blistering benchmark time of 50m 53s, which saw him hold third place for much of the morning as 135 riders worked their way through the course.

As the top-seeded favourites began to finish, Chant eventually slipped to seventh overall – a strong debut performance against some of the best time triallists in the UK.

Speaking after the event, he said: “I don’t think I could have done much more on the day. I paced it well and I’m really pleased with the seventh-place finish in under 51 minutes, up against top-class riders. I’m now looking forward to the National 10, which is more my distance, later this month – hopefully I can bring home another good result for the team.”
