Shanklin FC under-10s proudly hosted the Isle of Wight Defibrillator Tournament last weekend – a grassroots football event with a lifesaving twist.
Organised by Trevor Payne and Steve Read, the tournament welcomed teams from Ventnor, West Wight, Brading and Shanklin for a day of sport, skills and community spirit.
Around fifty young players took to the pitch, showcasing their football talents, while also learning how to perform CPR – an initiative designed to equip the next generation with vital emergency skills.
Trevor Payne said: “It’s a fantastic way to combine the energy of youth football with something truly meaningful. Teaching CPR alongside the tournament gives these kids confidence and knowledge that could one day save a life. Huge thanks to Steve for all his help in making the day a success.”
The event was part of a wider campaign to raise awareness of defibrillator access and emergency response training across the Island.
The day was filled with football fun and lifesaving skills. Fifty young players took part in the football tournament and they were also taught how to perform CPR.
