Wight Aviation Museum’s open day hosts author

Helen Blake, Karl Love and Sally Smith

The author of ‘Those Magnificent Women and their Flying Machines’, Sally Smith, was guest speaker at the recent Wight Aviation Museum’s (WAM) open day.

Sally recounted how the story of women in aviation began with a vicar, an aristocrat artist, and a woman in a lighter-than-air balloon basket.

The event was held in WAM’s new ‘Hangar Two’, which is also home to a number of displays covering its education work, schools, and with youth groups. Cllr Karl Love, chairman of the IW Council was among the guests.

WAM’s chairwoman, Helen Blake, said: “It was a great day for us to showcase some of the projects we are involved with for the next season. A lot of hard work from the WAM Team resulted in an interesting and enjoyable day for the many visitors who attended.”

The museum will be closing to the public at the end of this month, but keep an eye on the WAM website, wightaviationmuseum.org.uk, for information about its various projects throughout the winter closure.
