Whitecroft & Barton’s winning ways in football

This week W&B maintained their unbeaten run at the top of Division One, Ventnor A reached the Junior B Cup final, Cowes secured a Wessex win, and there were disappointing defeats for Shanklin Ladies and Wight Eagles.

Divisions One and Two

League leaders W&B won 3-0 at home to Binstead COB, after a goal-less first-half, subs Kade Woodford, Dan Pearson and Sam Cant secured the decisive win. It has been confirmed that their Challenge Cup final, will be against Shanklin, on Wednesday, April 16, under the lights at Beatrice Avenue.

Two goals from Aaron Bennett, and 1 apiece for Scott Lawson and Lewis Parsons, saw 3rd-placed Brading beat 2nd-placed Ventnor 4-1 at home. Emerson Tattersall was on target for Ventnor.

Connor Furmidge (2) and Sonny Myram scored in Cowes Res 3-2 win away at Osborne Coburg, with Harry Green and Nick Payne getting the consolation goals for ‘Burg.

Shanklin won an end-to-end battle with Vectis 4-3 on the astro, with goals from Alfie Flux, Kyle Drew, an own goal, and another from sub, Jack Mikoakyec. Ben Gregory received two yellow cards for Vectis, whose goals came courtesy of Tyler Greenslade (2) and James Ashley.

In Division Two, Ryde Saints drew 1-1 with Seaview in the local derby, whose goal came from Brandon Smith on the hour.

Newchurch lost 2-0 at home to 2 Cruz Wragg goals for Niton, Sandown & Lake won 4-2 at home to East Cowes Sports, with goals from Shay Dixon before half time, and subs, Cameron Kayode and Louis Day (2), after the break. Alex Breingan and Sam Coe were solid in midfield, and Rob Iley defiant in defence after the visitors hit the bar early on.

Combination Leagues

In Combination One, goals from Connor Coburn, Brad Gamble and sub, James Green, saw Osborne Coburg Res win 4-1 away at Brading Town Res.

High Park Res drew 2-2 at home to East Cowes Sports Res.

Ventnor Res won 2-1 at home to Bembridge Res, who took an early lead when Theo Sampson scored, but goals from Nathan Barlow and Stephen McDonough secured the points for Ventnor.

In Combination Two, Osborne Coburg A won 1-0 away at High Park A.

Luke Warde scored for Newchurch Res in their 1-1 draw at home to Ryde Saints Res, who equalised through Jayden Moody, with Dylan Jenkins booked.

Goals from Brad Jackson and Michael Smart saw Sandown & Lake A draw 2-2 at home to Oakfield Res.

Junior A and B Cups

Oakfield won 3-1 at home to High Park in the Junior A Cup, with goals from Nathan Roberts, Ben Gardner and Oliver Hammond.

West Wight Res won 2-1 at home to W&B Res, with Jack Ewbank giving the visitors the first-half lead. However, second-half strikes from Jordan Flynn and George Saunders secured West Wight a place in the next round.

In the Junior B Cup, Ventnor A scored a goal in each half, through Jason Kennett, to win away at West Wight A and reach the final.

Wessex leagues

Cowes won 3-1 at home in the Premier Division, with Connor Kelly scoring with 10 minutes of the first half left, finishing a move started by Scott McFarlane and player-of-the-match, John McKie, after the visitors had a goal cancelled for offside. After the break McKie scored within minutes of kick-off, following up from the spot on the hour.

The home team conceded a goal with 5 minutes left. Cowes’ Jordan Cook was yellow carded and McKie denied a hat-trick for offside.

Vics drew 1-1 away at Ash, conceding a goal in the first half, with Josh Neale equalising just after the break. Keeper, Alex Ram, was awarded player-of-the-match for an outstanding performance.

Newport lost 2-0 at home to Frimley Green, despite a player-of-the-match display from Keelan Walsh.

Women’s football

Shanklin Ladies narrowly lost 1-0 away at Farnborough.

Wight Eagles lost 7-3 away at AFC Portchester, with a first-half goal from Jess Green, with player-of-the-match Emma Webb, and Millie Tinsley, scoring after the break, and joint player-of-the-match Ellena Boakes putting in an outstanding performance.

Fixtures

On the Island, Division One sees Binstead COB welcome W&B, Northwood entertain West Wight, Shanklin host Vectis, and Ventnor face Cowes Sports Res.

Ryde Saints will be home to Sandown & Lake, High Park host East Cowes Sports, Newchurch welcome Newport, and Oakfield entertain Niton in Division 2.

Combination One sees Brading Town Res host Shanklin Res, East Cowes Sports Res welcome West Wight Res, High Park Res home to Northwood Res, Osborne Coburg Res play Bembridge Res, and W&B Res face Sandown & Lake Res.

Bembridge A are home to Newchurch Res in Combination Two and Sandown & Lake A welcome Ventnor A, West Wight A host High Park A, and Ryde Saints Res are home to Oakfield Res.

In the Junior B cup, Niton Res face Osborne Coburg A at Springhead.

In Wessex, Cowes welcome Downton in the Premier Division, with Newport home to Hamworthy in Division One and Vics away at Whitchurch United.
