More than £500,000 was raised by the 35th Walk the Wight for Mountbatten Isle of Wight.
At a special celebration event held at the hospice today, the impressive total raised by the May event was announced as £515,000. The figure is expected to increase as final sponsorship and donations roll in.
Walk the Wight organiser, Ashleigh Gibbs, said: “This is an incredible achievement by thousands of amazing supporters. Thank you for taking part, thank you for donating and thank you for making Walk the Wight 2025 such a huge success.
“It’s not too late to pay in your sponsorship, if you have yet to do so. You can do it online, through your fundraising page or by popping into Mountbatten.”
Music was provided by Mountbatten IW’s Community Choir, who sang ‘Walk the Wight With You’ , a song penned by Mountbatten music ambassador, Mike Christie, from G4. Attendees included long- term fundraisers and volunteers.
This year, around 9,000 people walked one of four routes, trekking up to 26 miles across the Island. People also took part virtually and walked the Wight their own way, including through rehab programmes in Mountbatten’s gym.
Pre-registration has opened for next year’s Walk the Wight on Sunday, May 10. Early registration gives a 10 per cent discount on the fee and early notification when registration officially opens early next year. To pre-register for Walk the Wight 2026, visit iw.observer/wtw-2026.
Meanwhile, Mountbatten is also keen to hear from anybody wishes to volunteer to support the event.
