The Blue Lamp Trust is looking for volunteers for their Cyber Bobby Scheme, protecting people from cybercrime.
The aim is to raise awareness about basic IT security and how to avoid being affected by a cyber crime or a cyber-enabled crime.
The areas to be covered are: ‘What is cyber crime?’, ‘Can criminals buy my on-line identity’, ‘Creating and storing passwords’, ‘Password hygiene’, ‘Privacy — social media’, ‘Protection — anti-virus’, ‘Public wi-fi’, ‘How to report issues’ and ‘How to recognise scam or phishing e-mails and texts’.
As important as having an interest in IT (in which you will receive training), you need to have the ability to empathise with the client and be able to explain the subject in a simple way, free from jargon and difficult to understand terms.
You will visit the client in their home, and talk to them about cyber security and cyber-enabled fraud. You may also be asked to give talks and presentations about the work of the Cyber Bobby Scheme and computer security to relevant community groups.
You will be able to claim travel expenses.
The Blue Lamp Trust is looking for volunteers to cover the Island, with the aim of starting the service later this year. The role requires your committment to four hours of volunteer work per week.
There will be an informal interview and positions will be confirmed after a police vetting check (if you do not currently have one).
If you are interested in this new role please send your current CV and a covering letter on why you are interested in the role to Cyber@bluelamptrust.org.uk
