Newport won the Senior Cup, beating St Helens by 8 runs, in a close encounter at Newclose. After the ’Port won the toss, and opened with Ash Brett and Kev Winchcombe, middle-order batters, Gareth Bricknell scored 53, and Louis Payne 59 not out, to set a target of 196-6 off 40 overs. In reply, St Helens all-rounder, Marc Allen, scored an unbeaten 95, as a steady fall of wickets saw St Helens finish on 188-8, with Louis Payne claiming 3-43, and Adam Wilson 2-10, as Newport were crowned cup winners.

In IW League Division Two, Northwood won by 88 runs away at Shanklin & Godshill III, with Jeff Barrett’s unbeaten 75, helping Northwood reach 191-6. There were two wickets for Shanklin’s Ollie Maidment, and one apiece for John Job (and a run-out), Luka Moreno and Matthew Manning. George Speller top scored with 28, as Shanklin were all out for 103, with 3 wickets each for Neil Redmond and Ben Baker.

IW U-12s celebrated a victory against Hampshire, who scored 211-8 off 30 overs, with a maiden century from Noah Gartell. Support throughout the order saw the young Island side chase down the target, and secure an 8-wicket win. After the match, coach Jack Powell said: “I’m absolutely buzzing for all the kids; they’ve all worked so hard this season and to finish the year with such a convincing win is a brilliant reward for all their efforts throughout this season.”

Southern Premier & Hants Leagues

Premier league Ventnor lost by 14 runs at Totton & Eling, who scored 223-8, with 3 wickets for Dineth Thimodya. In reply, Thimodya top-scored with 49, as the Island side were dismissed for 209, to finish eighth at the end of the season.

In Hants Division One, Ryde lost by 4 wickets at home to Kerala, with skipper, Ash Goldsmith, top-scoring with 47 as Ryde were all out for 122. The visitors reached 125-6 in the 36th over, with 3 wickets for Ash Goldsmith. Ryde finished 16th in the league.

Ventnor II XI beat Shanklin & Godshill by 6 wickets in Division Three. Batting first, Shanklin scored 172-8, with Sean Phillips top-scoring with 30, George Niemiec adding 27 and Charlie Calloway taking 3-39. Champions Ventnor saw Neil Westhorpe score an unbeaten 66 and Ben Attrill add 51, for Ventnor to reach 173-4 in the 39th over. Ben White claimed 2 wickets, and Sean Phillips, normally wicket-keeper, took a wicket.
