Hat-tricks from Harry Mulholland, Connor Furmidge and Tony Potts signal the end of August, and start of the autumn programme of fixtures across the four Island divisions, the two Wessex Leagues and Hants ladies season.
Island League & Cups
There was a Classic Challenge Cup clash between Shanklin and Northwood, with Josh Field giving Shanklin an early lead from 25 yards. The visitors equalised, with a near post header from yellow-carded John Bilton dead on half-time. Northwood took a second-half lead through Leigh McKenzie and looked to be going through, when Tom Ashley levelled from outside the box, seeing the game go to a penalty shoot-out. Shanklin’s Dan Field held his nerve to secure a 5-4 win and qualify for the next round.
In Division One, Bembridge won 4-2 at Binstead, with goals from Barry Calvert (2), and one apiece from Rory Day and Michael Brown.
A Connor Furmidge hat-trick, with a Charlie Haward strike, saw Cowes Res win 4-2 at home to Osborne Coburg, whose consolation goals came from Jack Summers and Harry Green.
Champions Whitecroft & Barton won a tight match 2-1 at Brading, scoring first through player-of-the-match Kade Woodford, then, having a second disallowed, W&B led 1-0 at the break, and kicking downhill conceded a Dan Vale goal for the Romans, but secured three points when Sam Cant scored the winner.
In Division Two, two goals from Josh Hadcroft and one from Kayton Evans, saw Pan draw 3-3 with Ryde Saints.
High Park were awarded an away win at Seaview.
Combination Leagues
In Combination One, Shanklin Res beat Brading Res 3-1, with Fin Lloyd’s calm finish seeing the home side lead 1-0. Shay Pattrick levelled for Brading before the break. Side-footers from well-worked moves down the left flank saw Peter Wilson and Sam Collings grab the points for Shanklin side.
East Cowes Sports Res won 5-0 at home to Northwood Res, with goals from Josh Richardson (2), and one apiece from Roland Bryan, Shane Silk and Reece Sibley.
Second-half goals from Ryan James and Bobbie Wye saw Bembridge Res winning 2-0 at home to Binstead COB.
Ventnor Res drew 1-1 at home to Osborne Coburg Res, with a goal from Kyle Drew. It was announced Andy North and Steve Brougham were joining the coaching set-up. West Wight Res won 3-0 at home to High Park, with goals from Simon Merrett, Jordan Flynn and George Saunders.
In Combination Two, Vectis Res are facing disciplinary action after the dismissal of players Bubacarr Touray and Finn Woodford and coach, James Brewer, in an ill-tempered last 20 minutes. Kudzaishe Mazambara was also yellow carded with Dan Mew dismissed for Newchurch Res. Vectis won the match 3-1, with goals from Touray (2) and Cain Willetts.
A Tony Potts hat-trick helped Niton Res win 7-0 at home to Sandown & Lake A, with Jordan Fowkes, Dan Skinner, Levi Wragg and Tom Brownrigg completing the scoring.
West Wight A lost 2-0 at home to Osborne Coburg Res.
Ventnor A won 8-0 away at Bembridge A, with a Harry Mulholland hat-trick, two goals from Robert Gee, and one each from Fin Mulholland, Harrison Cutler and Harley Kennett.
Wessex Football
Cowes lost 1-0 away at Bournemouth.
Vics lost 3-1 at home to Ringwood, with Jacob Reynolds scoring for Vics.
Newport secured a point in the 2-2 draw at Alresford, with goals from a Jordan Browne penalty and Harry Catania.
Women’s Football
In Hants Division One, Shanklin Ladies started their season with a 2-0 home win over Millbrook, with goals from Sienna Brennen and player-of-the-match, Rosie Willis.
In their first Division Two match, Wight Eagles drew 1-1 at home to AFC Totton, with Jess Green scoring in the first half. The Eagles play Pace FC on Sunday.
