Ventnor warm spaces auction

By Press Release Dec 7, 2022

An auction, to raise funds to start-up Ventnor Warm Spaces venues in January, has raised £2,500.

The evening was organised by Ventnor Mayor, Steph Toogood, with Nigel Slater-Bishop, the town council’s business manager acting as auctioneer.

Steph said: “The government has suggested that we need warm spaces to help people during the winter. As a town council, we couldn’t do it without raising money.

“Around 80 people attended The Met Bar, with Rosie Gibbs donating the venue and The Hillmans playing, who also gave up their time free.

“We are looking at a variety of warm space venues, in and around the town, although nothing has been set-up yet. We have several charities in the area who would let us use their premises.

“We also want to make the venues somewhere everyone from the community can drop in, so people can maybe watch films, read books or do puzzles. This winter is going to be tough for people and we want to help them through the harsh months from January until the end of March.

“We’re also looking for volunteers to come and help us in the scheme.”
