A small part of the seawall at Ventnor has been closed after a small collapse at the far end of the Eastern Esplanade Car Park.
Cllr Ed Blake, who represents Ventnor and St Lawrence, released photos this week urging people not to try and go there as there was a “high chance of more concrete falling”.
Cllr Blake said: “The whole lot is coming to the end of its life and will be replaced in the next few years as part of the Environment Agency’s sea wall defence scheme.
“We have seen a lot of south easterly winds over the last week or so and these haven’t helped. There is a small barrier to stop people getting too near the edge and there is going to be a temporary repair done to keep it safe. There are a lot of little fractures and the sea will break into any weakness.”
Less than two years ago, major coastal defence works, costing £4.8million, were completed at Eastern Esplanade following the collapse of a 35-metre section of sea wall.
